AWS announced today the plan to open an infrastructure region in New Zealand in 2024 with a new AWS Asia Pacific (Auckland) region consisting of three availability zones. The new region provides NZ customers with low latency workloads and secure data storage meeting data sovereignty requirements.
An AWS economic study estimates the new region will create 1,000 new jobs in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and an economic impact to Aotearoa’s GDP of $NZ 10.8 billion over the next 15 years through an investment of $NZ 7.5 billion.
The new AWS Asia Pacific (Auckland) region and its three availability zones join the existing 81 AWS availability zones across 25 geographic regions. The region will be owned and operated by a local AWS entity in New Zealand.
