A Central Victorian small business has become the latest victim of a shipping container scam which is catching people out across Australia.
- James Boyd bought a shipping container for $5,500 from what he thought was a legitimate Goornong website
- The shipping container did not arrive and First Choice Shipping Containers ceased contact with Mr Boyd
- Scamwatch received 130 reports of shipping container scams across Australia in the past three months, representing more than $564,000 in losses
Bendigo small business owner James Boyd purchased a shipping container from what he believed to be a Goornong-based outlet called First Choice Shipping Containers.
After purchasing the container for $5,500, Mr Boyd was left empty handed when the delivery failed to arrive.
“We needed a little bit more room so I investigated through their website,” he said.
“I priced shipping containers two-and-a-half years ago and they were about $2,000 to $3,000. But now…
