Boone County homeowners may have recently received a letter from the Boone County Assessor’s Office. The contents could come as a surprise.

The assessor’s office began mailing out over 44,000 change of real estate assessments April 30. The last round of letters were mailed late last week, according to Boone County Assessor Tom Schauwecker.

Schauwecker and his team send out revaluation notices every two years — the most recent valuations took place Jan. 1.

The fluctuation in residential housing value over the past two years surprised Schauwecker and his staff.

“I haven’t seen anything like this in my 32 years as the county assessor,” Schauwecker said.
