Harrisburg’s business administrator resigns on the eve of hotly contested mayor’s race

A senior aide to Mayor Eric Papenfuse has resigned his post.

Marc Woolley, the city’s business administrator since 2017, submitted his resignation Thursday, effective Nov. 15. But he was subsequently told by Papenfuse to leave effective Monday.

Woolley’s resignation letter, a copy of which was shared with PennLive, did not specify a reason for his decision, and Woolley did not respond to several requests for an interview.

Papenfuse declined comment when reached Monday.

In hiring Woolley in 2017 at a salary of $115,000 the position was described this way:

The new administrator will oversee the city’s finance, human resources and internet technology departments. He will also be involved in purchasing, contracts and a number of tasks related to the city’s emergence from Act 47 distressed municipality status.
