HSBC has issued a warning to customers in Cornwall after a number of customers narrowly avoided losing up to £40k between them to scammers.
Five customers who bank at HSBC’s Truro branch almost fell foul of attempted fraud in recent weeks, with vigilant branch staff managing to prevent them from losing money.
Each customer was targeted for amounts ranging from £4,000 to £8,000.
It led to HSBC urging the public to be alert in Cornwall for the scams, which often start with emails and texts designed to look like they are from the bank but are actually fake.
