IMMOKALEE, Fla. — The Immokalee Fire Control District chief is warning local business owners of an ongoing scam.
A man wearing an “official looking polo shirt” has been stopping at businesses within the fire district and conducting fake fire inspections. According to Fire Chief Michael Choate, once the inspection is complete, the man asks for cash as payment for services.
The fire chief is warning business owners and residents of the scam, advising them to not pay anyone in cash or card for a fire inspection.
“Let me assure you, none of our fire inspectors will accept any type of payment regardless of the circumstance,” Choate said. “If we are there in an official capacity, we will have official identification and you will receive an invoice in the mail following completion.”
