India seeks Russia as a responsive partner in wake of border crisis, extends cooperation agreement

India reached out to Russia on Monday, asking it to be “sensitive” and “responsive” as a major defence partner in the wake of continued Chinese aggression on the northern borders. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while underlining the centrality of Russia in India’s security paradigm, said Delhi’s defence challenges were “legitimate”, “real” and “immediate”.

The minister made a case for “enhanced requirement of India for closer military and military-technical cooperation with Russia” in the wake of the current crisis, even as the two nations signed a pact for military cooperation that will span the next decade and includes joint development of weapon systems and technology sharing.
