The Government is facing serious pressure after rolling power blackouts on one of the coldest nights of the year, with National saying the situation is “third world”.

Energy Minister Megan Woods is yet to speak publicly about the situation, but is meeting with Transpower and regulator the Electricity Authority on Tuesday morning.

The crisis did not appear to be over, as Transpower issued another emergency notice on Tuesday morning and wholesale spot prices spiked, indicating the grid operator was again worried about supply not matching demand.
