U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Cheyenne, said: “Historically, following wars and conflicts across all generations, the United States has been a country of refuge for those fleeing terrorism, tyranny of authoritarianism, and oppression. Just as has been exemplified by countless other refugees who have resettled in Oklahoma, the Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban can become pillars of our society working to provide for their families and becoming active members of our communities. Following an intensive vetting and medical process, I’m confident America will remain a beacon of hope to fleeing SIV (special immigrant visa) applicants, Afghan refugees, and their families — just as was shown to the generations of refugees who came before them.”
