A store employee stopped someone from becoming a victim of fraud over the weekend, Kingsville OPP say.
The complainant had received a call advising them their credit card was compromised. The caller directed the complainant to purchase Google Play cards on Saturday and send them to the caller — a popular method scammers use to take victims’ money.
The complainant was attempting to purchase the Google Play cards when an employee at a local business notified police of a potentially fraudulent situation.
Police are encouraging businesses, retirement homes, long-term care facilities, financial institutions, social service providers, and family members to have open conversations about fraud and the fact that seniors are often targeted.
