GRAND JUNCTION, Colo — Western Slope voters will cast their ballots in just 12 days.
In Montrose, they’ll choose who represents the Montrose School Board.
A third public forum sparked some controversy this week.
Three candidates, Andrew Neal, Cortney Loyd, and Dawn Schieldt, all running on conservative platforms, were no shows saying they were too busy to attend.
In national politics, this week Senator John Hickenlooper introduced a bill that would require competitive bidding for drilling for oil and gas on public lands.
Currently, the government is able to sell drilling rights on public lands, accounting for more than 720,000 acres in Colorado alone.
These projects are usually leased to oil and gas industries. and some of this land has gone as cheap as $1.50 an acre in a non-competitive bidding process.
